Celebrating Unity and Dreams: 2024 Martin Luther King Jr. Community Events

Last Updated 1/10/2024

The 29th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Breakfast will be held on MLK Day, Monday, January 15, 2024, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Doors will open at 6:30 a.m. The event will be held at the Statesville Civic Center, 300 South Center St., in Downtown Statesville.

The 2024 theme is Together We Can Be the Dream. The guest speaker will be Pastor Jason Davis, the Lead Pastor of Impact Church in Greensboro. After serving as Youth Pastor at Impact Church Reidsville for seven years, he helped plant and found Impact Church Greensboro in 2009. Davis holds a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Pfeiffer University (2004), a Masters of Arts in Religion and a Master of Divinity from Liberty University Theological Seminary. He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Ministry degree. Pastor Davis is known for his charismatic approach to ministry and his love for the local church. He has a passion for raising leaders and equipping the Body of Christ for service. This calling led him to begin the Impact Leadership Institute in 2020. He is married to Rosetta Davis and they have two children.

Other community events are planned for the MLK weekend.

Youth day for kindergarten through high school ages will be held at the Unity Center, 1145 Salisbury Rd. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024. A light lunch will be served. Arts and crafts, spoken word, singing, and cross-cultural activities will be experienced. Guest speakers will encourage and teach youth the messages of Dr. King.

A concert and celebration service will be held Sunday, January 14, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. at Landmark Church of God, 2200 East Broad St. The service will be led by a community choir led by Rochelle Brown, Freddie Morrison, and Alysia Yount Owen. The public is invited to join in all events of the celebration. All events are free. Martin Luther King Jr. Day activities are organized by the Iredell County MLK Planning Committee and, as a 501 c3 charity, are supported by the City of Statesville, area businesses, churches, and individuals.
