Brandon Crouch always wanted to be his own boss, but wasn’t sure how to start. Though he had many great ideas, with a full-time job as a Registered Nurse and a family at home, he was always a bit hesitant to take the plunge. Until one day, Brandon’s wife, after listening to a podcast, suggested a junk-hauling business. Within two weeks of the idea, HunkaJunk Hauling was born, with a single pickup truck and small trailer. Brandon started off by himself, going to jobs after work and on the weekends, but it didn’t take long for him to discover a real need for his service. “There is a need here in Statesville and Iredell County, and no one was doing it”, Brandon said.

Needing to grow his company, Brandon was fortunate to have friends step in, ready and willing to help. With the extra hands, HunkaJunk Hauling grew fast, and they soon needed to expand their fleet for the increased business. Though they experienced rapid growth, Brandon shares that the company is still family owned. “If someone comes to your house or place of business, it’s someone who is a family member or friend”, he said.

Giving Back to the Community

When Brandon first started HunkaJunk Hauling, he assumed people would call him to haul away old or useless items. What he didn’t anticipate was coming across gently used items that could be salvaged and used again. He began taking these items and donating them to Fifth Street Ministries in Statesville. “I didn’t realize the impact we could have on the community and the people in need”, he said, “that’s really very rewarding”.
