Help Protect Our Waterways: Volunteer to Mark Storm Drains in Your Neighborhood
The Stormwater Division is excited to offer a new volunteer opportunity for citizens who want to make a difference in their community. You can now assist the City of Statesville in marking storm drains in your neighborhood, helping us spread an important message: Only Rain Down the Drain!
Why Storm Drain Marking Matters
Stormwater runoff is a natural process, but urban development changes how rainwater interacts with the environment.
- Before development, much of the rainfall soaks into the ground, thanks to vegetation and tree canopies.
- After development, less water infiltrates into the soil, leading to increased surface runoff.
- Contribute to flooding and safety hazards.
- Cause property damage.
- Lead to soil and stream erosion.
- Degrade water quality and stream health.
How You Can Help
By volunteering to mark storm drains in your neighborhood, you’ll be playing a key role in protecting our community’s waterways. The city will provide all the materials you need, including materials and instructions. It's a simple, impactful way to educate your neighbors and help reduce pollutants in our stormwater system.
What to Expect
- Materials Provided: The Stormwater Division will supply everything you need for the project.
- Flexible Schedule: You can volunteer at your own convenience.
- Family-Friendly: This is a great opportunity for families, scout troops, or community groups to get involved.
