Making Waves of Support: Statesville Recreation & Parks Department's Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Iredell County

Another year, another incredible display of community spirit and support at the annual Polar Plunge benefitting Special Olympics Iredell County!

Despite the chilly 35-degree water temperature, participants from all walks of life eagerly took the plunge, showcasing their unwavering dedication to making a positive difference. The Statesville Leisure Pool was transformed into a beacon of hope and solidarity on Saturday, February 17, 2024.

Local program coordinator for Special Olympics of Iredell County, Bobbi Williams, shared exciting news with the crowd, announcing that they had not only surpassed but exceeded their fundraising goal. The collective efforts of our community saw over $20,000 raised, a testament to the generosity and compassion that abound in Statesville. This remarkable achievement speaks volumes about the impact we can make when we come together with a common purpose.

Richard Griggs, director of Statesville Recreation and Parks, summarized the essence of the event: "The big win is the crowd of 100 or more." The presence of over 150 spectators and more than 50 plungers underscores the profound sense of unity and camaraderie that defines our community. As we celebrate this year's success, let us carry forward the spirit of inclusivity and empowerment, continuing to support the incredible athletes of Special Olympics Iredell County in their pursuit of excellence.
